Crime writing with Brian Stoddart

Brian Stoddart is the workshop host and was long listed for the 2017 Ngaio Marsh Award for Best NZ Crime Novel with A Straits Settlement.

The aim is to have some fun and learn some new tricks.

This will be an overview of and introduction to contemporary crime fiction and will include:

The difference between modern crime fiction and the Golden Age of Christie, Marsh, Sayers and Allingham.
Creating characters.
Setting up structure and story.
Producing plot and setting.
Writing a standalone versus a series.
Improving your writing.
Reading some great writers.
Developing your style and voice.
Pursuing publishing options.
