Brian Stoddart is the workshop host and was long listed for the 2017 Ngaio Marsh Award for Best NZ Crime Novel with A Straits Settlement.

The aim is to have some fun and learn some new tricks.

 

This will be an overview of and introduction to contemporary crime fiction and will include: 

  • The difference between modern crime fiction and the Golden Age of Christie, Marsh, Sayers and Allingham. 

  • Creating characters. 

  • Setting up structure and story. 

  • Producing plot and setting. 

  • Writing a standalone versus a series. 

  • Improving your writing. 

  • Reading some great writers. 

  • Developing your style and voice. 

  • Pursuing publishing options.
